Research training

The network will offer broadness for the research training in terms of network workshops and meetings, and in co-organizing schools and conferences open for research students. Students taking part in these activities can normally transform their participation into formal credits at their local University. In addition, long term stays at other laboratories of the network has a proven record of important results in terms of research training quality. In the proposed network, it will be possible for, e.g., students specializing in theory or computations at one network node to gain experience with other numerical and theoretical techniques, which are the specialty of another node within the proposed.

Research training in the area of modern atomic, molecular and optical physics is very timely and important. First, the new light sources impose new demands to theory. Second, modern AMO physics is the basics for future quantum and nano-technologies of various kinds. The list of students receiving their basic research education within the research area of AMO physics and then starting successful careers at applied technology institutes or companies is indeed very long. It is now internationally well recognized that future technology development towards nano-length scales are one major trend. The need for research training in the core of this technology is recognized as important.
