Objectives to be achieved during the operating period of the network

The network objective is to increase the quality of Nordic research collaboration and research training in atomic, molecular and optical physics and chemistry. Within a carefully selected number of projects within the research area of atomic, molecular and optical physics, the network will conduct collaborative research with emphasis on obtaining an increased understanding of fundamental quantum processes.

The network has four target specific goals for research collaboration.

i)     To contribute to an increased understanding of quantum systems driven by new external radiation sources.

ii)    To develop new computational methods in addressing timely processes with quantum systems

iii)   To conduct collaborative work within joint theoretical projects.

iv)   To produce common internationally recognized research articles.

In research training the main targets are

i)     To increase the quality (and quantity) of the PhD and MSc training in atomic, molecular and optical physics and chemistry in the Nordic countries.

ii)    To increase the mobility of the research students and to offer theoretical individual based training at selected network sites, where special expertise exists.

iii)   To arrange Nordic courses within related/applied topics of atomic, molecular and optical physics to broaden the student’s knowledge and even more important to help shaping new research directions.

Strong collaboration between the nodes have already existed over the years and the proposed network would certainly help also in reaching the above listed objectives.
