Plan covering collaborative activities during the three years

The collaborative activities will fall into three general classes.

  1. We will have network meetings and schools in each of the participating Nordic countries during the three years of the network.
  2. We will support travelling to conferences, where several nodes participate.
  3. We will support scientific missions among the four nodes.

In all three points above the participation of graduate students and postdocs will be of major importance. We envision that bringing the young researcher under the guidance of the node-group leaders will create an atmosphere for innovation and foster new ideas.

At the yearly planned Nordic meetings and schools, we plan to bring the groups together and to invite other relevant participants (seniors and students) from our respective Nordic countries. Also, and this we judge to be essential for the success of the meetings, we will invite international leading experts to join and give lectures and seminars. The total of participating people at these meetings is expected to be about 30-50, and we plan  (at least) 10 days of meetings and schools each year.

In addition to the essential network meetings and schools planned each year, the network will allow us to give support to PhD students and young researchers to participate in international conferences and workshops of particular importance of the focus areas of the network. We judge that it would make the research from our 4 Nordic countries much more visible internationally if more people were given the opportunity to participate in such meetings. The conferences listed below are examples of the many relevant activities within the matter of subject and not necessarily the final ones where participation will be supported.

Finally the network will be used for short-term missions within the Nordic countries to exchange expertise, give training and talks, etc. Such activities are expected to occur numerous times each year, and they will not appear in the more detailed plan given below.

2010-December:

First network meeting in Aarhus, Denmark. More detailed network priorities will be discussed, and if necessary, the overall plan for the network activity will be modified slightly.
