Time-domain quantum processes studied by ultrafast radiation pulses

In the researcher network ‘time-domain quantum processes studied by ultrafast pulses’, researchers from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland team up to study how the quantum world behaves on its natural time- and length scales. It is new developments of radiation sources that allow researchers, literally, to take pictures of how the electrons and atoms move during reactions. These developments have imposed new demands to the quantum theory that now has to be explicitly formulated in the time-domain, and the network allows researchers and students to meet and develop theory and exchange knowledge. Currently, scientists throughout the world are pursuing the goal of maximizing the science impact of these new radiation sources. The role of physics in this quest is to develop a good understanding of the fundamental interactions between matter and the new sources and, equally important, to develop the knowledge of how to optimize the radiation from the new sources. These are the scientific questions addressed in this network.
