The surface dynamics laboratory was established at Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University in April 2007.

It comprises five UHV chambers: The Big Chamber, The Coal Chamber, The Green Chamber, The Blue Chamber and The Low Temperature Chamber. The Big Chamber is primarily used for measurements of the thermal desorption of large molecules whilst for the remaining chambers Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is the main technique.
