Summary:

We present the synthesis of interconnected networks of silicon oxide nanoparticles on carbon surfaces. By synthesising the films in ultra-clean conditions using beams of silicon and oxygen, we can precisely tune their composition. The study creates a wealth of possibilities for mimicking interstellar silicates under controlled laboratory conditions, allowing us to study the physics and chemistry of space dust.
