Applications of up-conversion: from photovoltaics to plastic recycling and anti-counterfeiting

Up-conversion (UC) has long been an attractive area of science given our fascination with a process that, at first glance, seems it might defy the law of conservation of energy.  For this reason, UC has been pursued for a wide range of applications.  This presentation firstly will discuss the application of UC layers to the rear-side of bifacial silicon solar cells in an attempt to harvest the photocurrent from sub-bandgap photons.  From there, two other applications of UC will be explored, namely the application of UC materials to plastic recycling and in anti-counterfeiting solutions.
