XUV-photofragmentation and photon assisted ion-neutral reactions in the gas phase

Our research focus on studies of the dynamics of isolated molecular ions initiated with high energy radiation or through chemical reactions with gas phase targets.

We combine techniques

  • to control and trap ions, i.e. Radiofrequency traps and    electrostatic  storage devices (rings and linear trap
  • to analyze and detect the photofragments (electrons, neutral, and charged fragments)

with modern intense light sources,

  • the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH at DESY in Hamburg,
  • the ASTRID2 at IFA, and
  • ns- and fs-lasers in the IR-UV region.

We also study non-linear mechanical problems and for instance develop new student exercises.

We offer several Master and Bachelor programs within these areas.
