In the recent years theories have been proposed to answer probably one of nature’s hardest questions: what is consciousness? Recent theories in cognitive science tries to explain consciousness by neuroimaging. Others try surprisingly to use quantum physics to explain the phenomenon.
In this colloquium different definitions of consciousness will be presented. Also, current theories of consciousness will be explored. The second part of the collo-quium will show the interplay with consciousness and physics. Early quantum interpretations of measurement show the use of consciousness as a causal role in measurement. Branching out from this thought, wild experiment and theories have been made. In contrast, other theories suggests that the collapse of the wave function creates consciousness instead of being causal.
The goal of the colloquium is to delve into the familiar yet difficult topic of consciousness.
