Title: Durability and deformation of a bed

Despite being in a pandemic, Japan managed to host the Tokyo Olympics with its spectacular intel drone light show. However, it was not the only thing that caught the attention of the internet. The beds designed for the Olympics by Airweave company were supposed to be environmentally friendly, which was why they were made of corrugated cardboard. However, a rumor arose that the reason was “anti-sex”, which encouraged an internet trend of people testing the durability of the bed by jumping on it. Even a record of 9 people’s jump was made.

While the rumor was funny by itself, it does raise a question: How can a bed made of corrugated cardboard withstand such a great impact. In this academic seminar, we will have a look at the physics behind the durability of a bed. This will be a topic centered around the deformation of materials.
