Quantum Computing is a new field within physics which a lot of people have heard the potential of.
I'm going to give a brief explanation of how a quantum computer works, and what different kinds of quantum computers can be build.
In particular I will go through a particular kind of quantum computer built by superconductors on micro chips.
A few examples of problems where quantum computer algorithms potentially offer speed ups will be presented, and I will try to evaluate the likelyhood of these algortihms actually being implemented.
