The invention and commercialisation of a light bulb is generally recognised as one of the biggest technological developments in human history. However, the many advantages of artificial light came with a price.

Light pollution is a term used for the unnecessary and obstructive outdoors light. It is the least talked about type of pollution but no less damaging then the others and far more dangerous than people expect. It is often overlooked as something that only concerns astronomers. However, in reality it has severe consequences for the wildlife, our planet as well as for human health and safety.

The aim of this colloquium is to explain what light pollution is and present the many ways in which it affects us all and the world around us. Moreover, to show possible solutions of this issue, some of which are already being implemented around the globe.
