There is no such thing as zombies. Yet, the outbreak of a zombie virus may serve as a toy model for testing out some approaches to modeling dynamic systems of populations. This toy model resembles models used in the analysis of disease spread and the study of low concentration chemical reactions.
In my colloquium we are going to take a closer look at some models for determining the chances of the human population in the event of a zombie outbreak. We investigate what measures we can implement to counteract the spread of zombies, and we study the impact of such measures. We will estimate characteristic parameters, consider the possibility of coexistence, and through simulations try to build an understanding of this hypothetical future.
And if I am wrong in my initial assertion – at least we are somewhat prepared...
