'Strongly interacting particles in one dimension'
Strongly-interacting one-dimensional few-body systems provide a great playground for studying magnetic correlations in both bosonic and fermionic systems. I will describe a surprising simple method to determine the N-body solution of such systems in a general confining geometry by using the simple example of a harmonically trapped system with two and three particles.
The exact solution is a starting point for the creating and manipulating ferro- and antiferromagnetic few-body systems. There is a strong dependence on the geometry of the confinement. This would not be expected from an analysis based solely on symmetries and spin algebra. In spite of claims to the contrary, quantum statistics of the particles plays an important role even in the strongly interacting regime. As an example, I will discuss the so-called 'polaron' in which a single impurity interacts very strongly with a number of identical bosons or fermions.
