Aarhus Universitets segl

Instrument Center for Danish Astrophysics

The Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT)

The NOT is administered in collaboration with the Nordic countries. As of 1 January 2020, Aarhus University and the University of Turku have taken over the legal responsibility to continue the operation of the telescope.

Danish access to the NOT

In Denmark, Aarhus University is responsible in terms of ensuring the continued operation of the telescope on behalf of the Danish astronomers, and in collaboration with the astronomers in the other Nordic countries, it is the aim to ensure an ambitious instrument plan and to upgrade the Instruments of the telescope. This work will be carried out by the IDA working group on the Nordic Optical Telescope. IDA covers trips to the NOT for Danish astronomers and expenses for so-called service observations, fast track and target-of-opportunity.

How to get support for your trip to the NOT

IDA only supports the trips and service fees in connection with observations, which have been obtained in open competition via peer review in the NOT Observing programmes Committee (OPC).

Travel expenses covered by IDA include travel, accommodation, local transport, food/per diem for one observer in connection to a given observing run.

Before you book your travel, please make a budget of your expected travel expenses and send it to ida@phys.au.dk for final approval. Make sure to state observation run, PI and dates in the email.

Note that IDA also covers all service fees in relation to the Danish use of the NOT. Service fees will be paid directly by IDA to NOT.
