IDA Student Network

Built by students, for students

IDA Student Network

A national student network for astronomy, astrophysics and space science

The IDA Student Network (IDA-SN) is a student-driven network that connects students across Danish universities who are interested in astronomy, astrophysics and space science.

The network provides a national platform for students to meet, exchange knowledge, organize activities and develop collaborations across universities.

Why IDA Student Network?

Students interested in astronomy and space science are spread across the IDA consortium including KU, DTU, AU and SDU. While many student initiatives already exist locally, there are relatively few opportunities for students to connect and collaborate on a national level. IDA-SN aims to bridge this gap.

The network brings together students from different universities and backgrounds and creates opportunities for student-led workshop, outreach, networking and cross-university projects.

The annual Danish Astronomy Meeting (ADAM) provides a natural meeting point for the Danish astrophysics and space-science community and plays an important role in bringing students together.

What can you through IDA Student Network?

As part of IDA-SN, students can take part in activities organized across the Danish university community.

Academic and technical activities

Students can propose and participate in activities such as:

  • Data-analysis workshops
  • Programming workshops
  • Astrodynamics workshops
  • Telescope and instrumentation sessions
  • Research discussion groups
  • Student-led exploratory projects

The network is intended to give students the opportunity to share their knowledge and interests with peers from other universities.

Outreach and community

IDA Student Network also supports activities that connect students with the wider community, including:

  • Possible outreach activities for high-school students
  • Cross-university collaborations
  • Potential student activities connected to ADAM

These activities give students an opportunity to develop leadership and organizational experience while contributing to the Danish astronomy and space-science community.

Who can participate in the IDA Student Network?

IDA-SN is open to students with an interest in astronomy, astrophysics and space science.

You can participate whether you are studying:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree
  • PhD

You do not need to be studying astrophysics specifically. Students from different technical and scientific backgrounds are encouraged to participate and contribute their own interests and expertise.

Student Committee

IDA-SN is coordinated by a Student Committee consisting of up to 10 students representing universities across Denmark.

The committee:

  • Coordinates student activities and communication
  • Develops national student initiatives
  • Supports collaboration between universities
  • Provides a platform for students to propose new activities

The committee has two co-chairs, who coordinate the committee and act as liaisons with the IDA Board. This structure is intended to ensure both student leadership and continuity within the network.

How can I get involved?

There are several ways to participate in IDA-SN.

  • Participate in activities
Join workshops, networking events, outreach activities and other student-led initiatives.
  • Suggest an idea
Have an idea for a workshop, visit, project or other activity? Share it with the network and help make it happen.
  • Join the Student Committee
Students interested in taking a more active role can participate in the Student Committee and help shape the development of IDA-SN.
  • Meet other students
Connect with students from universities across Denmark and build your national academic and professional network.
