GLT Workshop

The Greenland ice sheet potentially offers a unique location for submillimeter wavelength astronomy, in particular, with its high altitude and extremely dry atmospheric conditions. A consortium consisting of the Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, along with MIT Haystack Observatory and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory are in the process of deploying a 12 m telescope (the Greenland Telescope, GLT), one of the ALMA prototype antennas, there. Some of the primary science cases are participation in mmVLBI observations of the black hole in the center of M87 as well as THz measurements.

The Danish Instrument Center (IDA) will host a workshop in relation to the GLT and the aim of this workshop is to probe the Danish interest in participation in the Greenland Telescope project and discuss its relation to other ongoing projects in Greenland and elsewhere with Danish involvement - including instrumentation development. Ample time will be reserved for contributed talks as well as discussions.
