Richard Balog

Richard Balog is senior researcher at the Center of Excellence for Interstellar Catalysis (InterCat). Richard expertise is in cryogenics and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). 

Within IRAstro, Richard performs tasks related to commissioning and application of a new state-of-the-art scanning tunnelling microscope combined with infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The main application of the instrument is to reveal chemical pathways occurring on the surface at cryogenic temperatures. This will be achieved by chemical identification of molecular species at the single-molecule level.
