Liv Hornekær is Professor of Materials Physics at Aarhus University and Leader of the Center of Excellence for Interstellar Catalysis (InterCat). Her research bridges surface science and astrochemistry, with a focus on chemical processes on interstellar dust grains.
Within IRAstro, Liv develops and applies scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) techniques to investigate astrochemical reactions at the single-molecule level, including the formation and transformation of complex organic molecules. Under IRAstro, these capabilities will be further enhanced by the development of an IR-STM equipped with a superconducting nanowire single photon detector to allow detection of infrared photons emitted from molecules at the tip-sample junction.
