Peter Balling appointed Professor
From 1 September 2020 he starts as Professor of experimental physics
Peter Balling will start as Professor of experimental physics at Department of Physics and Astronomy, on 1 September 2020.
The research is about the interaction between light and materials and ranges from basic scientific studies of the ultra-rapid dynamics of materials to projects, which are partly motivated by the opening of new uses, for example in solar cells and medical technology.
Peter Balling has worked at Aarhus University since 1997, from 2003-2014 as Associate Professor and since 2014 Professor MSO. He graduated from Aarhus University, where he received his PhD degree in 1995 and in 2014 defended his doctoral dissertation of ultra-fast dynamics in materials. Throughout his career, he has conducted research at both the FOM Institute AMOLF in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the Lawrence Berkeley laboratory in Berkeley, California and the Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.
After eight years in the Academic council, in 2019 Peter Balling was elected employee representative in Aarhus University Board. In 2017, he was appointed member of the Independent Research Fund Denmark | Technology and Production (FTP), where he is currently Vice-Chair.
Peter Balling was born in Aarhus, where he still lives with his wife, Kerstin. He has two grown-up sons. He spends much of his spare time with his family, but Peter is also an active chorister.
It will be announced at a later stage, where and when the new Professor will hold his inaugural lecture.
