New Honorary Professor at Aarhus University - Thomas Tauris
After a recommendation from IFA's management and St' Head of Faculty, the Rector has appointed Thomas Tauris, University of Bonn, with the title of Honorary Professor at Aarhus University. The promotion is an acknowledgement of Professor Tauris' extensive work in astrophysics, particularly with emphasis on neutron stars, black holes and gravity waves. We congratulate Professor Tauris and look forward to the collaboration in the next few years
Thomas Tauris is a senior staff member in the Fundamental Physics Group at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn, Germany and Privat-Dozent at the University of Bonn. His research expertise is founded on theoretical work and covers a broad range of topics including: formation and evolution of compact stars (neutron stars, white dwarfs and black holes), binary stellar evolution, supernovae and gravitational wave sources.
While being a graduate student at Aarhus University (1993-1997), Thomas Tauris spent 3 years at the ATNF-CSIRO in Australia for his doctoral work on millisecond pulsars. After obtaining his PhD, he was awarded fellowships at the University of Amsterdam and NORDITA, and also served as assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen. Thomas Tauris has worked in Bonn since 2010 and received his second doctoral degree (German: Habilitation) from the University of Bonn. Thomas Tauris is 47 year old, married to Dr. Birgitte Tauris and father of 3 children.
