We study molecular ion spectroscopy and dynamics, particularly focusing on biochromophores relevant to biological functions like vision and fluorescence. The research employs advanced laser and accelerator-based methods, utilizing both nanosecond (ns) and femtosecond (fs) lasers. By cooling the ions to low temperatures (6 K) we allow for precise measurements of molecular properties.
The use of an ion storage ring provides a unique setup for studying isolated ions in a vacuum over extended timescales.
