Title: Quantum Teleportation and the existence of the Soul
The concept of teleportation is often viewed as purely science fiction but in this colloquium, we will see that it is actually possible to teleport particles in practice and it has in fact been done experimentally. We will explore the fascinating and weird world of quantum mechanics and how it allows us to teleport quantum states. After a brief overview of some key concepts of Quantum Mechanics, we will tackle the problem head on and derive the Quantum Teleportation protocol directly on the blackboard. We will furthermore prove the No-Cloning Theorem to guarantee that no matter what we do, we will end up with only one object after teleportation, removing the worry of how to get rid of an awkward clone. Afterwards we will investigate the consequences of human teleportation. Human teleportation reveals some interesting discussions of whether it is possible to transfer the consciousness of a person in the teleportation process. We will try to get a better understanding what consciousness really is and discuss if there in fact exists a soul in which our consciousness originates from.
