Student Colloquium, Carl Philipp Diehl: A History of our understanding of Gravitation
Supervisor: Dmitri Fedorov
A History of our understanding of Gravitation
Gravitation is one of the four fundamental forces of our universe and understanding it is one of the big goals of Physics.
The answer to the questions of why and how things fall was and still is one of the major fields of physics. From just everything returning to its natural place to the understanding of Black holes, we will see different theories and their problems.
This Colloquium aims to give you an overview of our understanding of Gravitation from Aristotle to Einstein. We will visit some of the most famous physicists and scientists and see their theories and misconceptions.
We will start our Journey through history in Greece with their Philosophers and end with modern physics and the problems of uniting all four fundamental forces under one theory. I hope to give you an outlook over this fascinating topic and its history.
