Abstract:

Personalization of radiation doses to inherent patient radio-sensitivity remains an outstanding problem in radiation oncology. The ability to understand tumour and healthy tissue response during the course of radiation treatments would allow oncologists to better accommodate individual radio-responses. In order to achieve this goal, a deeper understanding of tumour and healthy tissue radio-biodynamics is required. Raman spectroscopy is an inelastic light scattering technique that can provide multiplexed information on biodynamics in tumour and non-tumour cells and tissues upon exposure to radiation. In this talk we will provide an overview of our work in using Raman spectroscopy in conjunction with data analytic techniques to identify bimolecular dynamics in systems undergoing radiation exposure. We show that the technique can be used as both a monitoring and predictive tool for helping to elucidate tumour responses to radiotherapy.
