ABSTRACT
Complex oxides are materials known for their fascinating properties such as ferroelectricity, piezoelectricity, and pyroelectricity, which attract considerable interest. To enhance and broaden their functional capabilities, different methods have been used to modify the symmetry of their crystal lattice. In this presentation, I will explain how intentionally changing this symmetry can open up remarkable new possibilities. These include the ability to observe conductivity appearing in real-time as the material forms, stabilizing certain material phases that are usually unstable unless they are at highly coherent interfaces, and boosting electromechanical properties through interface engineering. Additionally, I will discuss innovative techniques that enable the creation of ultra-thin, standalone oxide films that are nearly two-dimensional. These developments offer exciting prospects for utilizing the unique and emerging properties of complex oxides and their interfaces.
