New professor at IFA: Philip Hofmann
Philip Hofmann is employed as of March 1st at the Department of Physics and Astronomy as a professor with special responsibilities in experimental physics.
Philip Hofmann was born in Berlin in 1967. He studied physics at the Free University, Berlin, and did his PhD research at the Fritz-Haber-Institute of the Max Planck Society, also in Berlin. He stayed at the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, USA, as a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 1998, he moved to Aarhus where he has been employed at the Institute for Storage Ring Facilities (ISA), Aarhus University. His research is primarily focused on the electronic structure of solids and their surfaces.
In this new position Philip Hofmann's activities will continuously be focused on synchrotron radiation research with the upcoming source ASTRID2 here in Aarhus. Existing activities in high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission will be substantially improved and moved to ASTRID2, opening entirely new perspectives for this field. Moreover, Philip Hofmann plans to be involved in novel experiments which make use of ASTRID2's advanced light characteristics.
