Memorial for John Kapstadt
Former employee and union representative John Kapstadt has passed away
John Kapstadt was employed as a machinist at the Department of Physics and Astronomy (IFA) from 1.8.1998 until he retired on 31.12.2022. At the age of only 68, John died on Saturday 16.11.24.
John was a joint union representative (FTR) for craftsmen and technicians at the entire Aarhus University (AU) for many years. Among the members, he was what you call a comrade, someone who fought for his members, but at the same time had an eye for the interests of the entire university. John helped create the great unity that exists today between craftsmen and technicians at AU. He also served as chairman of the professional Club 59 under Dansk Metal for decades. John could remember people, made sure to get around the entire university to talk to the members, and he therefore always knew what was going on. He also had a good sense of what was right and fair and never hesitated to point out inappropriateness, while respecting the decisions that were made.
Among other things, through his also many years of work in, among other things, the main cooperation committee, John also knew many leaders at AU and got on well with most of them. His informal approach meant that the vast majority of challenges and problems were resolved amicably and in a proper manner. Many of us will miss John's good humor, willingness to serve and unity-building approach.
John will be buried on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:30 p.m. from the Great Chapel of Vestre Kirkegård.
