IFA IDEAS grant awarded to four Master’s degree students
Four Master’s degree students, Tilo Planke, Lasse Haahr-Lillevang, Simon Holmbo and Jonas Refsgaard receive grant of DKK 40,000 from IFA IDEAS for the purpose of purchasing a CCD camera for a telescope at the Ole Roemer Observatory.
Tilo, Lasse, Simon and Jonas have initiated to complete the restoration of the IFA 50 cm telescope at the Ole Roemer Observatory. In 2002, the telescope was restored with new, computer-controlled motors. However, due to lack of resources, the telescope has not been in use since. The four Master’s degree students are now in the process of finalizing the software, calibrating the telescope and purchasing a new camera in order for the telescope to be operational again. Thus, in the long term, IFA will have a large telescope of high quality accessible to the students.
The newly formed IFA IDEAS is intended for the academic staff and students with at least a bachelor's degree. It was possible to apply for a maximum of DKK 50,000 up to the deadline in September 2012 for projects within research, talent, training or dissemination.
