Grants for Peter Balling and Ltaief Ben Ltaief
The Villum Experiment Program from VILLUM FONDEN # VELUX FONDEN awards DKK 97 million to 49 extraordinary ideas, and Peter Balling and Ltaief Ben Ltaief will receive DKK 1,99 mio. each for their projects.
Professor Peter Balling wants to use the grant to find out, whether it is actually the case that a specific kind of electromagnetic waves (terahertz radiation) will be emitted from a laser-excited dielectric material. His group recently predicted this effect when modeling the transient optical response of the materials.
Postdoc in Marcel Mudrics group, Ltaief Ben Ltaief wants to find out how to turn mid-infrared light in interaction with water clusters mixed with foreign species of low-electron affinity into slow electrons via the so called vibrational intermolecular Coulombic decay—vibrational ICD—process. During his Villum experiment project, he is mainly aiming to experimentally prove for the first-time vibrational ICD and characterize its role in leading to slow electrons, which can in turn terminate into solvated electrons in the water environment.''
Congratulations to them both!
