General Physics Colloquium
'Current and future research possibilities at the MAX IV laboratory'
Jan Knudsen
MAX-lab, Lund University
In the first part of this talk I will present a comprehensive overview of current and future research possibilities at the MAX IV Laboratory, Sweden. Here I will describe the large variety of beamlines and setups at the existing and future laboratory and some of the exiting research.
After the general introduction to the laboratory I will discuss the new ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy instrument recently installed. By comparing preferential oxidation of CO in a CO:H2:O2 mixture over Pt(111) and Ir(111) I will show how powerfull the technique is for fundamental studies of heterogeneous catalysis. New experimental setups for studying liquid phases, samples at high temperature, biological samples, samples in a sulphur environment etc. will also be discussed.
Last, I will discuss how we used high resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to study graphene supported nanoparticles and graphene covered transition metal surfaces as model systems for gas adsorption and reactivity on nanoparticles and for studying confinement effects, respectively.
Wine and cheese will be served at 4 PM
