Postdoc Juan Sánchez-Baena receives a Margarita Salas Postdoctoral Fellowship

Congratulations to Juan Sánchez-Baena who has been awarded a Margarita Salas Postdoctoral Fellowship funded by the Spanish Ministry of Universities.

Juan Sánchez-Baena receives a two-year contract with Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, in the research group of Prof. Jordi Boronat.

He is currently working in the group of Prof. Thomas Pohl, at the Center for Complex Quantum Systems, and plan on continuing his current research at Aarhus University, while also starting new research projects with the UPC research group. The research in Aarhus involves continuing the exploration of the effects of temperature in a system of quantum dipoles using the Bogoliubov formalism, characterizing the correlations of light that goes through a hot gas of atoms (in collaboration with postdoc Lida Zhang). His ambition is also to start a project with Prof. Klaus Mølmer in the topic of weak measurements and their applications to quantum computing. Future research projects at UPC involves using quantum Monte Carlo methods (concretely, the Path Integral Quantum Monte Carlo method) to study the aforementioned system of quantum dipoles at finite temperature, as well as initiating himself in the field of neural networks in order to explore their application to the computation of properties of quantum systems.

The Margarita Salas fellowship is awarded to postdoctoral scholars who obtained their PhD title in Spain after 2018.

Starting date: 15-02-2022 (provisional)
