New Research Assistant - Henrik Hirzler

On 15 august 2022 Henrik Hirzler joined Michael Drewsen’s group at CCQ

In Aarhus, he will work on a new experiment which will combine ultracold atoms and trapped ions. Such mixtures are particularly interesting because the charged-neutral interaction is much longer-ranged compared to pure neutral system. An ion immersed in a neutral gas interacts with the surrounding atoms and thus presents a strongly coupled impurity. At the same time, the excellent control over trapped ions and their internal electronic structure allows to use them as a precise probe for the properties of the neutral gas and to study ion-neutral collisions. Therefore, the new ion-neutral machine will be a versatile experiment for studying strongly interacting few- and many-body systems.

A warm velcome to Henrik!
