Abstract : The large amounts of dust in galaxies remains elusive, posing many unanswered questions. One of the most intriguing ones is: What is its origin? Stellar sources, i.e., supernovae, contemplated as prime sources of dust, have not yet emerged victorious out of the battle about the most efficient sources of dust production in the Universe. The reasons are the uncertain mechanism, location, timescales and quantities of dust formation. Another reason is that supernovae are also considered as sinks, because their shocks can destroy dust grains. I will talk about recent results obtained for the supernova SN 2010jl which revealed how dust forms in supernovae and how dust grains survive subsequent destruction.
