Physics research at the Department of Physics and Astronomy is divided into three main areas: i) atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics, ii) condensed matter physics and nanophysics and iii) subatomic physics. Research into astrophysics and cosmology covers three main areas: i) Stellar astrophysics, ii) compact objects and cosmic rays and iii) cosmology and astroparticle physics.
