Research

Research at Department of Physics and Astronomy (IFA) at Aarhus University is primarily basic research within both physics and astronomy, but also extends towards applied research. Our research is about everything within the non-living nature, and ranges from studies at the very smallest scale in the world of the elementary particles, via the mysteries of quantum mechanics to the very largest scales within the study of the universe as a whole. The department is organised very homogeneously, without sections, with contributions to several interdisciplinary centres and for instance housing of three centres of excellence under the Danish National Research Foundation.

The research largely takes place in collaboration with researchers from other laboratories, both in Denmark and abroad, is often in interaction with researchers from other fields of research, and in many areas IFAs researchers are in the absolute world elite.
