Possible Exoplanet Large Assignments

1. Use the existing data for HAT-P-2 and compare with the CORAVEL measurements. Discuss the CORAVEL instrument and the accuracy of the instrument. Discuss the accuracies of the parameters in Table 2 of "Loeillet B. et al.: Refined parameters and spectroscopic transit of HD147506b". Create a simple model for a planet in an elliptical orbit and calculate the "observed" radial velocities.

2. Discuss the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect for HAT-P-2. Compare the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect for HAT-P-2 with the effect seen in all the other stars shown above. Discuss the differences and the parameters one may extract from measurements of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect (e.g. spin-orbit alignment).

3. Analyse the exoplanet transit observed at the 165cm telescope on 18 August 2008 (WASP-2 transit). The 288 CCD frames shall be analyzed and a time series produced. Extract basic transit parameters from the light curve (transit times and transit depth). Compare with the parameters in the Transitsearch Page. Search for litterature for WASP-2.

4. Study the exoplanet search programme on the CoRoT(CNES) mission. Calculate SNR for photometry on typical CoRoT target stars and study the five detected CoRoT exoplanets (CoRoT-Exo-1b, CoRoT-Exo-2b, CoRoT-Exo-3b, CoRoT-Exo-4b and CoRoT-Exo-5b). Compare the CoRoT planets with the planets found via the other planet search programs (e.g. SuperWASP, HAT and TrES).
