									<p><strong>Abstract:</strong>&nbsp;<br> <br> Precision radial velocity and photometric monitoring of a large number of stars may reveal hitherto overlooked populations of binary systems consisting of normal stars and unseen compact objects. In this talk, I will focus on one of the candidate systems emerging from those searches, V723 Mon, which has been claimed to host a 3 solar-mass black hole orbiting a red giant star. I will show how our modeling of tidal deformation effects on the radial velocity measurements of the red giant star determines the binary parameters including the orbital inclination and companion mass without photometry, providing additional evidence that the companion is a dark, 3 solar-mass object.</p>
