Research Groups

Astrophysics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy covers two broad areas: Stellar Astrophysics and Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. Ground-based observational research is carried out at the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) and other facilities to which we have access through collaborations. In addition, the astrophysics group takes part in a number of space projects, such as for instance SOHO and CoRoT, and plays a leading role in the use of data from the NASA Kepler mission for stellar investigations. The theoretical research concerns accurate modelling of stellar structure and evolution and interpretation of data on stellar oscillations, as well as development of cosmological constraints on fundamental particle physics and astroparticle physics.
