Quantum Optics & Information

Our group studies quantum systems subject to controllable interactions, dissipation and measurements. The work includes development of interaction protocols with applications in quantum computing, communication and sensing with trapped atoms and solid state impurities. When the coupling to the environment or to a measurement apparatus is taken into consideration, new pathways for controlled dynamics of quantum systems emerge. A special focus of the group is on quantum trajectory methods, which provide the state of continuously monitored systems and the ensuing optimal estimates of physical properties probed by such systems.
