Ultracold Quantum Gases

Our group realises well controllable many-body quantum systems with the aim of understanding their properties when individual particle behaviour gives way to emergent collective properties. This is achieved in ultracold atomic gases, that are cooled to near-zero temperatures and can be accurately controlled by external fields. Through the exquisite control of all relevant parameters such systems can provide a so-called quantum simulator, that permits detailed test of our theoretical understanding of quantum many-body phenomena. In addition to such fundamental studies we apply quantum control of these many-body systems to create specific quantum states that are relevant for precision measurements at the quantum limit.
