Since the discovery of the double-helical structure of DNA by Watson and Crick in 1953, DNA has revolutionized our world. Now the frontiers of DNA nanotechnology promise to change our lives even more as techniques for "folding" DNA into ever more complex nanostructures continue to progress and evolve. In addition to an introduction to the exciting field of DNA Origami, the colloquium will cover using a DNA Origami "breadboard" to create small photonic wires, photonic switches and solar cell-like light-harvesting complexes. So, if you want to know how it is possible to make a piece of virus DNA fold itself into a 2D smiley face molecule, a dolphin molecule with a flexible tail or a box with a programmable lid, or you want to learn about applications of highly addressable DNA origami surfaces, then come to this student colloquium!
