Single photons can be plucked out from a laser beam
Recent paper in Physical Review Letters has participants from a.o. IFA
A recently discovered quantum effect, measured experimentally and theoretically well understood, makes it possible to pluck single photons out from at beam of laser light. The discovery has been published in Physical Review Letters in March 2018. The paper, titeled "Photon Subtraction by Many-Body Decoherence". springs from a collaboration between researchers from IFA, from University of Southern Denmark, from Stuttgart and from Maryland. Main author is Callum Murray of IFA and one of the co-authors is Thomas Pohl, also IFA.
