Quantum Optics Seminar - Andreas Gerhard Schindewolf: Towards ultracold fermions in optical lattices

Info about event

Time

Thursday 28 February 2013,  at 10:15 - 11:00

Recent experimets with single-site resolution and addressing of strongly correlated bosonic atoms in optical lattices have resulted in the direct observation of quantum phases such as Mott insulator, and out-of-equilibrium physics. However, an experimental proof of single-site-resolved detection of correlated phases of ultracold fermions in an optical lattice is still lacking.

I illustrate our progress and future plans in realizing single-site-resolved, in-situ imaging and manipulation of strongly correlated 40K fermions in an optical lattice. Technical aspects of the various optical dipole traps used in the experiment are discussed in detail.

Coffee/tea and Danish pastry will be served from 10:00.
