He will be funded for 2 years by his own Marie Curie scholarship, to investigate time-resolved spectroscopy of strong-field-driven solids.

Stefano has been investigating the ultrafast dynamics of atoms, ions, and molecules interacting with light, and how these can be accessed with nonlinear X-ray spectroscopy. His theoretical work is performed in close collaboration with experimental groups and is motivated by the rapid advances in the generation of ultrashort XUV and X-ray pulses from high-order harmonic generation and X-ray free-electron lasers. During his PhD in the Theory Division of Prof. Keitel at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany, Stefano worked on X-ray quantum optics and spectroscopy of atoms and highly charged ions. As a recipient of a Feodor Lynen postdoctoral fellowship of the Humboldt Foundation, he then joined the group of Prof. Mukamel at the University of California, Irvine, where he developed schemes of nonlinear X-ray spectroscopy to investigate ultrafast dynamics in molecules.
