Title: Collective dynamics in transport and strongly interacting Rydberg gases

Speaker: Claudiu Genes, Institute for Theoretical Physics (University of Innsbruck) and Max Plank Institute for the Science of Light (Erlangen)

Abstract:

I will discuss recent/current theoretical and experimental efforts aimed at describing collective effects in light-matter interactions in gases of ultracold Rydberg atoms and organic semiconductors embedded in optical micro-cavities.
In the first part of the talk, the focus is on recent experimental endeavours [1] aimed at investigating the dynamics of a dense ultra-cold ensemble of Rydberg atoms in the time domain via Ramsey interferometry with attosecond precision. The effects of many particle interactions on the degradation of Ramsey contrast and phase accumulation are modelled by an approach going beyond typical mean-field [2].
The second part of the talk deals with the effect of hybrid light-matter delocalized states on atomic-exciton and charge transport. Theoretical proof-of-principle studies [3] show polynomial instead of the expected exponential scaling of energy transport in the presence of disorder. The formalism is then extended to a two-band model, that simulates realistic organic semiconductor materials showing enhanced charge transport [4].
