In modern medicine the art of radiotherapy has undergone a vast experimental and theoretical progress in a short amount of time. Advanced machines are used to provide the irradiated dose in a detailed three dimensional distribution aimed at targeting the cancerous volume while maintaining a minimal dose on surrounding healthy tissue. In present time only few methods are available to validate such three dimensional dose delivery. These methods have their own limits, such as not being reusable or requiring expensive readout equipment unavailable for the common hospital or a very imprecise measurement.

In this colloquium I will shed light at a newly developed and filed patent formulating a new promising three dimensional dosimeter, based on semiconductor crystals imbued with impurities which exhibits Optically Stimulated Luminescence. During this colloquium I will talk about the basic theory behind the dosimeter, several methods of producing the dosimeters, the readout methods and their challenges.
