Assumptions have been an integral part of Physics, as long as anyone can remember. I investigate where these assumptions come from, and if they are fruitful or not. In my investigation, Thomas Kuhn’s theory of paradigms is the focus of the study. Paradigms can help physicist block out irrelevant variables, and thereby focus on the task at hand. But occasionally, as discussed by Karl Popper, paradigms can lead to dogmatic science, and lead scientists to overlook relevant abnormalities.

I compare Kuhn’s and Popper’s views, draw parallels to relevant studies and didactic theories, while also investigating historical problems, to find out the benefits and dangers of paradigms.

It seems that the straightforward, theory heavy, normal science education is not as efficient as Inquiry based science education.
Popper also expresses his concerns with paradigms and normal science.
But normal science has its purpose to serve. But a scientist should always be wary and critical, even when studying popular theories.
