Ny postdoc: Leszek Grzanka

Leszek Grzanka er ansat som postdoc ved Niels Bassler fra 1. januar 2016

Leszek Grzanka is from the proton therapy center CCB, located at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Krakow, and visits the particle therapy group at IFA. During the next six months he will work with Niels Bassler on Monte Carlo particle transport codes for ion radiotherapy. The goal is to improve accuracy of treatment planning by combining our own transport code SHIELD-HIT12A with medical imaging data (i.e. patient CT scans). This includes research in the physics of particle interaction, but also modeling radiobiological effects of ion beams.

Leszek’s background is mathematics and computer science, and he has well a major scientific interest is medical physics, especially radiotherapy with ions beams. In Krakow, he is a part of an interdisciplinary team which has constructed and now operates proton therapy center in Institute of Nuclear Physics.

Apart of being active in medical physics, Leszek also works as a software developer for detector simulation and data reconstruction at TOTEM - one of the LHC experiments at CERN.

Leszek’s stay at Aarhus University is financed by a grant from the Danish Cancer Society.
