Luis Ardila has joined the group of Thomas Pohl as a postdoctoral researcher on 1 May 2017.
My research activities focus on the area of ultracold dilute quantum gases. In particular my expertise addresses defects in gases at very low densities and temperatures. Under certain circumstances an ultracold quantum gas can exhibit an exotic behavior, where atoms are not longer distinguishable and they behave in a single coherent state (BEC). Nevertheless when defects such as impurities are immersed into the gas, the properties changes. The manipulation and control of single atoms in a many-body environment is a paradigmatic problem linked with other areas of physics such as few-body physics, quantum optics, solid-state physics and particle physics.
