The discovery and utilization of nuclear energy is one of the most outstanding scientific achievements in the 20th century. In the present work, we will firstly talk about fundamental nuclear reactor physics, e.g. the application and control of nuclear chain reactions. Then we will give a brief introduction to different nuclear reactor types. We will focus most on the design and structure of Boiling Water Reactors and Pressurized Water Reactors. And we will analyze the two most serious nuclear accidents in the human history, Fukushima and Chernobyl. Moreover, not only is developing new technology to enhance nuclear reactor safety very important, but it is also vital to create a nuclear safety culture, a" community" that has socially transmitted behaviors, beliefs and ethics that focus on safety without confusion. Therefore, we will complete the talk with an exposition of the principles of such a nuclear safety culture.
